.NET deployment
August 18, 2009 on 3:05 pm | In Database, Programming, Tech | No CommentsI have been coding up a Silverlight Application because I really believe this is the way to go for my next LOB(Line Of Business) app that I will be writing.
I go to try and deploy the test app to a test server. I am not happy at the moment. My connection to the database is killing me. I know that is the problem as I am going from a local machine with just about no security for localhost operations. To a server machine(which I am the only one on), that should mimic the production enviroment.
I am using RIA Services with a Entity Framework Model on the backend. I just can't seem to find the correct place to look for an execption so that I can throw a sensible message up.
I am pretty sure it is my lack of .NET experience. I have been programming for a really long time, but I am having a hard time putting on the nuts and bolts together.
I will figure it out. Just venting at the moment.
Why my wife hates me…. at least for the moment….
August 12, 2009 on 9:41 pm | In Living | No CommentsSo the wife and I decided to eat better. By "better", we mean more healthy and tasteful. That really means that we have started cooking just about every meal.
Having a ton of kitchen equipment, we are using just about every piece.
I have a bread machine going on 10 years now. Nice machine. I can say that in the last couple of months it has seen more use than the previous 9 years and 10 months.
Wife has taken to calling me "BB". Stands for "Bread Bragger". Debbie is an excellent cook. Some how everytime she tries to use that bread machine, she turns out bricks. If she cooks bread the manual way, it turns out great. Can't understand what happens.
Anyway, I believe I have turned out some pretty decent loafs of bread. I know exactly what is in the loaf, and am trying to get a bit creative. I was in Half Priced Books the other day and picked up a bread machine book. I have to tell you the best loaf so far is the first recipe we have tried.
It is Potato Bread, and here is the recipe. I modified it slighty from what was in the book:
2/3 cup water
1 cup buttermilk or 3/4 cup regular milk. I like buttermilk better.
1 egg
3 tbsp margarine
4 cups Bread Flour
2/3 cup packaged instant mashed potato flakes
4 tbsp sugar - I substituted an equal amount of Uncle Norman's Clover Honey
1 tsp salt
1-1/4 tsp of active dry yeast
I will post the next loaf and let you guys know how it turns out. It will be the first to to contain cheese.
I will also share any word of wisdom that I find.
Harold
Stay tuned…
August 10, 2009 on 11:54 am | In Uncategorized | 1 CommentIt is my plan to provide updates almost daily. I am figuring out as to what I really want to talk about.
Oh man this is technology…..
July 10, 2008 on 9:18 pm | In Living, Tech | No CommentsLet me explain my goals for this evening:
Install a ftp server on a clients machine in a colo a few hundred miles away.
Change administrative passwords and access on a clients network due to changes in personel.
Now the question is "Where am I?'
The answer to that is sitting on a concrete picnic table which is covered with a blue and white checked cloth(cause that is how my wife rolls). While listening to a bunch of teenagers get schooled in the fine art of make S'Mores. The lake is about 150 yards away, and there is a nice breeze blowing.
I love my wireless broadband card…...
Wow, this is sorta cool…..
July 9, 2008 on 1:37 pm | In System Admin | No CommentsOk, so maybe now I will blog a bit more. Probably not, just testing out a function of OneNote
Yes, I had nothing to do with any of this….
April 1, 2008 on 4:43 pm | In Funny, System Admin | No CommentsA fellow on a semi-private message board posted this link to a collection of examples of some creative phone an network wiring. I figured I would share.
I have to confess that I have been part of some unusual and creative wiring installations, but none have ever come close to any pictured above.
Teaching an old dog…..
January 31, 2008 on 8:08 pm | In System Admin | No CommentsI thought that I pretty much had windows terminal services well in hand. Well, I would be wrong. Due to a couple of needs my clients have expressed, I needed to be able to get to the console of a windows 2k3 server from a remote location within the corporate network. They really didn't want to be running down to the server room every time a change needed to be made on an application that can only have one console.
I know, I know, I know, but the architecture of the app is not the point of this post.
The client already has a ton of VNC, which is usually my choice to do this type of stuff, but I thought that maybe it could be done with RDP. I first tried to just remote control the console session from within tsadmin.
That was a bust as there was some sort of permission problem that didn't readily trigger a neuron or two as to where the switch was. So I did what every system admin type worth his salt does, I went to googling. After a very short search(1st or 2nd hit on the page), I found that I wasn't the only one to ask this question. This KB article made me think that I need to go read the documentation again. It does exactly what I wanted. Give me control of the console
I have some issues with VNC(ultra, tight, etc....), but it still does a really good job and I will continue to use it. Since Terminal Service Client is installed(or can be easily) on every machine that I have access to, I will probably use this more and more.
I not playing games… I am workin
November 15, 2007 on 12:43 am | In Programming | No CommentsIt seems that the folks over at Microsoft are going multi-platform. I might have more todo in WoW other than grind reputation. I have seen the LUA language more and more places of late. I am putting that on the list to do some learning.
Oh despair……
October 18, 2007 on 5:40 pm | In Funny | No CommentsMy friends over at Despair have announce a new set of posters for the 2008 season. Seems that they have a new T-Shirt as well. It seems to fit my blog all too well......
Incase you really miss TechTV….
June 29, 2007 on 10:04 am | In Tech | No CommentsI know I really like the screensavers show. As goofy as Leo was, I like him. So I started looking around to find out what happened to the guys. It seems a number of them ended up at dl.tv
I have been dl'ing the shows for a bit now. Go over there, get you tech on.
